IDC Names Fortinet Leader in Email Security for FortiMail

In its Marketscape: Worldwide Email Security 2016 Vendor Assessment, the global marketing intelligence company IDC has named Fortinet’s FortiMail a Leader in Email Security.

The IDC MarketScape assessments cover a wide range of vendors across many cybersecurity disciplines. The decision to release a Marketscape assessment covering email security was a no brainer. Email is the leading attack vector for hackers, with the majority of data breaches starting with a phishing email. The Verizon Data Breach Report suggests 75% of cyberattacks use email as the primary attack route.

The email security market may be mature, but there have been major innovations in this area of cybersecurity over the past months in response to the changing tactics of cybercriminals. With attack tactics constantly evolving, email security solutions must similarly evolve to maintain pace and keep businesses protected.

The latest Marketscape assessment covers a range of email security vendors across multiple platforms. When scoring companies, IDC assessed the breadth of capabilities of each solution, the range of delivery models, scalability of the solutions, availability, and adjacent security technologies.

Fortinet’s FortiMail was determined to be a leader in the field, with the firm constantly developing its technology to ensure its email security solution continues to provide outstanding protection from the latest email-based threats.

At the core of FortiMail are threat intelligence and threat updates delivered by FortiGuard Labs. FortiGuard Labs analyzes billions of email messages each day, identifying new email campaigns and threats and disseminating that information to allow those threats to be blocked before they are delivered to inboxes.

Fortinet participates in multiple third-party tests of its solutions to ensure they continue to provide an exceptional level of protection, and FortiMail has consistently ranked highly for the detection of malware in Virus Bulletin VBSPAM tests.

While the FortiMail solution itself was praised by IDC, Fortinet also received highly positive comments about its development strategy and the incorporation of FortiMail into its Fortinet Security Fabric, which shares threat intelligence and visibility with other solutions in the Fortinet family. Further, praise was received for the integration with FortiSandbox, which helps to detect and block advanced persistent threats and zero-day attacks. These developments were an important part of the decision to name FortiMail as Leader in the field of email security.
