An infamous and prolific hacker accused of performing cyberattacks on over 40 victims in the U.S. faced a four-count indictment and is to be extradited to face the allegations.
British national Kai West, 25 years old, is found to have worked with the monikers IntelBroker and Kyle Northern. He is accused of hacking into the systems of a telecom company, an Internet service provider, a municipal healthcare provider, and over 40 U.S. companies. The hacked companies included Cisco, AMD, HPE, Nokia, Ford, Europol, and Zscaler.
Based on the indictment, as stated by U.S. Attorney Jay Clayton for the Southern District of New York, and Assistant Director Christopher G. Raia, who is in Charge of the New York Field Office of the FBI, the cyberattacks by West resulted in over $25 million in damages to impacted companies.
For several years, West conducted hacking campaigns for money. He attacked companies, stole their data, and sold the stolen information (an outright HIPAA violation if involving protected health information). According to the indictment, West created forum threads about 158 times, offering information for free or forum credits. From 2023 to 2025, he sold hacked data about 41 times. West was the leader of CyberN[–], which is an online hacking group. Together with his online co-conspirators, he allegedly tried to earn over $2,000,000 from selling stolen information.
West allegedly sold the stolen data from a telecom company. He also tried to sell the data stolen from a municipal healthcare provider. The data included names, birth dates, genders, Social Security numbers, medical plan data, and employer details.
West is facing the following charges: one count of conspiracy to commit computer attacks, one count of wire fraud, one count of conspiracy to commit wire fraud, and one count of accessing a secured computer to acquire private data.
In February 2025, West was arrested in France and placed in pre-trial custody. He was confirmed to have associations with the IntelBroker moniker after trying to sell stolen information to covert law enforcement officers. The United States is presently looking at extraditing West to face his charges. In the event of conviction on all counts, West might serve 50 years’ imprisonment.
U.S. Attorney Jay Clayton mentioned that the IntelBroker alias had caused victims all over the world to suffer millions in damages. Facing these issues, the FBI committed to pursuing global cybercriminals. Since New Yorkers frequently become the victims of intentional cyberattacks, the Southern District of New York is likewise committed to chasing these threat actors and bringing them to justice.
